12/8/3 Quebec Citadelle

We had to move the motorhome to another campground which was in Levis, just across the river from Quebec.  I took the ferry which dropped me off at Old Quebec.  I walked up and toured the Citadella.  It is a fortification that was built atop Mount Diamant, the highest point of Quebec, directly above the narrowest point of the Saint Lawrence  It is still an active post of the Royal 22nd Regiment and is guarded by Royal Guards similar to the guards at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier in Washington D. C.  It was built in the late 1700's thru early in 1800's to protect the river.  It is surrounded by massive walls, backed with earth, with canons overlooking the river.  It has some buildings that were built by the French in the 1600's.  It was built in a star shape to protect Quebec from all sides.  I included a photo of a couple on the streets of Old Quebec.  I took the ferry back and we had a nice dinner at home.  Tomorrow we move on east down the river.
